FUNCTIONS OF MEDICAL SOCIAL WORK DEPARTMENT

  1. To take care of the psycho-social issues related to patients and their families in the hospital

  2. Enhance patient and his family understanding of the medical problems and their needs and also motivate them to apply their potentials toward a satisfactory solution or adjustment to their health condition.

  3. To assist physicians and other members of the medical team understand the emotional and social factors which are affecting or affected by the patient illness and which contribute to his adjustment to illness or his maximal use of available medical and social services.

  4. Advise the hospital management on social ethical issues regarding patients.

  5. Advocacy visit to top community, companies for resources and need of patients.

  6. Intervention services to accident victims and chronic ill patients brought to the hospital.
  7. Monitoring patient’s welfare to ensure stress –free treatment.
  8. Tracing relation of road traffic accident victims (Unknown)
  9. Special care for terminal ill patients
  10. Making referral service to other specialty.
  11. Contact tracking and tracing of absconded patients.
  12. Linking patients with statutory and voluntary agencies for psycho–social services,
  13. Conducting intensive social investigations, home visit on cases
  14. To ensure patients smooth transition from hospital to their homes
  15. General and specialized counseling.
  16. Repatriation services
  17. Conducting ward rounds.
  18. Taken care of abandon patients.
  19. Training students on practical.
  20. Active involvement in pre and post HIV test
  21. Deferring, subsiding drugs/ medical services for needy patients through funds made available by the hospital or charitable organization
